Sales of passenger cars in China fell slightly in January, compared to the same month a year ago, according to a trade association.

Volume dipped 0.2% last month to 647,594 vehicles, the China Passenger Car Association said. The figure was up on December sales of 644,028 vehicles.

Earlier this week just-auto reported that China could become the number one auto market in the world.

US light vehicle sales in January dropped 39.4% year on year to 655,226

Total Chinese auto sales could total 790,000 units for January, local pundits say, and that would be well ahead of the US.
