According to the Nihon Keizai Shimbun at the weekend, production of the car at Changan Ford Mazda Automobile, a joint venture between Ford and Changan Automotive Group, was halted on 7 April after China’s National Development and Reform Commission blocked plans to sell the cars through a different company.
The car was being sold by FAW Mazda Motor Sales, a venture between Mazda and China’s state-owned FAW Group. FAW Mazda also sells the 6, produced by FAW.
