BMW vehicle sales in China passed 75,000 units in the first half of this year, making the market the automaker’s third largest.
According to China Knowledge, BMW brand sales rose 98% year on year to 71,146 units while Mini’s tally of 4,469 units passed last year’s total. BMW and Mini together sold 37,627 vehicles in China in H1 2009.
A German report yesterday, citing BMW personnel chief, Harald Krueger, said the automaker would ship 10,000 German made 3 series cars to China this year because the local assembly JV with Brilliance could no longer meet local demand.
BMW would have to pay an import tariff of 25% on each car.
