Car sales in China, the world’s second-largest vehicle market, rose 36.72% in March from a year earlier to 486,000 units, the country’s official industry association said.

Sales of all vehicles – including everything from cars to buses and trucks – rose 23.92% to 721,500 units in March year-on-year, Reuters reported, citing official data provided by the China Association of Automobile Manufacturers.

Car sales in China grew 21.4% to 3.97 million units in 2005.

Sales rose just 15% in 2004 after almost doubling in 2003, hit by government-ordered steps to tighten credit to cool an economy in danger of overheating, the news agency noted.
