Land Rover has officially filed a lawsuit against Geely arguing that the Zhejiang based manufacturer’s use of the company’s Chinese name (luhu, literally ‘land tiger’) constitutes copyright infringement, Gasgoo.com reported, citing the Beijing Morning Post.

The claim, which was originally sent to China’s national Trademark Appraisal Committee, was rejected, leading to Land Rover’s decision to take legal action. The case is currently being reviewed.

The reports said Geely registered the luhu name in 1999, causing an uproar in the industry and confusion among consumers and the general public. Geely did not use the name, but the British marque was still unhappy and later asked the government to issue an order preventing its use.
