Zhejiang Jonway Automobile has launched the Wuxing, a cut-price rival for the country’s best selling vehicle, the Wuling Sunshine.
The new model, which is priced from CNY37,800 (US$5,975) is claimed to be some 15% cheaper than the base version of China’s number one vehicle, the Wuling Sunshine.
Not only is Jonway’s challenger similarly sized to the SAIC GM Wuling’s best seller, but it has an identical 2,700mm wheelbase. The standard engine is Mitsubishi‘s 4A10-series 1.1-litre four-cylinder petrol unit.
The firm plans to launch two versions of the Wuxing in the US, according to its website. There, the vehicle will be sold as the Shuttle G, while a plug-in variant will be known as the Shuttle EV.
The US-based Zero Air Pollution (ZAP) paid US$29m for 51% of Jonway’s parent, Zhejiang Jonway Automobile, in July 2010.
