JAC has held its third passenger car plant completion ceremony as well as the new SUV (S5) offline ceremony.

It is reported that JAC has invested CNY2.18bn in the plant which has an annual capacity of 240,000 units’ on a double shift.

JAC says that the S5 is a completely new SUV – shown at the 2012 Auto Guangzhou. It is reported that S5 will be launched into the global markets in March 2013.

S5 highlights (according to JAC):

  • Appearance: ‘Fashionable and kinetic’. S5 has overall dimension of 4475*1840*1670mm(length*width*height), and its wheelbase reaches 2645mm; 210mm ground clearance;
  • Equipped with AS (Hill-Start Assist System), TPMS (Tyre Pressure Monitoring System) and EPB (Electronic Parking System) for easy driving.
  • Security: More than 4% ultrafort steel application, as well as ESC body stability, HBA emergency brake assistance and TCS tractor control equipment ensure the active security to reach European standard.
  • Power: S5 is equipped with 1.8T, 2.0L engine and then the combination power train of 1.5T GDI+DCT 6 dual clutch transmission as well as 1.9CTI diesel engines are expected.

JAC says its third passenger car plant comes with ‘world-class equipment and craft technology’. In the press shop, there is a newly built ‘international advanced totally automatic pressing line’ with a world leading 2500 ton Servo press to achieve high efficiency and automation.

The welding workshop has the first international advanced fast speed flexible welding line among Chinese automobile enterprises and it is operated by 166 automatic robots. JAC says it can realise multi-vehicles crossover lines manufacture according to market orders.

The painting workshop applies the ‘world highest level waterborne B1B2 free intermediate coating process’, which can reduce VOC (volatile organic compounds) emissions while keep the coating anti-UV and anti-clip function at the same time. It is an innovation of auto environment-friendly painting process. JAC third passenger car plant is also the first to use this process among Chinese automobile plants, JAC claims.

The assembly workshop uses the L-style layout, and applied ground source heat pump air conditioning system to create energy-saving and environmental-friendly, constant temperature and humidity assembly environment.
