Hyundai Motor will expand production at one of its factories in Beijing, China.

The automaker plans to manufacture an additional 150,000 vehicles as its sales there grow faster than expected, reports the Chosun Ilbo. The company’s sales jumped 40% in the first quarter from the corresponding period of 2012.

With its partner Beijing Automotive, Hyundai set up its third plant with a production capacity of 300,000 vehicles per year in Beijing in July 2012. Hyundai’s three plants in China will be able to annually manufacture up to 1.05m vehicles once the expansion work is completed, sometime in early 2014.

Including Kia’s plants, overall production capacity will expand to 1.78m. At present, Kia is constructing its third Chinese plant in Yancheong, Jiangsu Province.
