Hyundai Mobis Co. has completed a new transmission testing centre in Beijing.

The testing centre, located within the company’s transmission production plant in the Chinese capital, cost 5bn won (USD5.1m) and has been under construction since 2006, the Korea Herald reported. According to Hyundai Mobis officials, the new testing centre is the first to be established within a single plant in China.

The centre has been added to the plant as part of the company’s research and development programs aimed at raising the quality of its products, Hyundai Mobis officials said.

The testing centre is currently equipped with devices that test the durability of the transmissions under different conditions – moving at a constant speed and when the gears are shifted continuously – and a 300 metre test track.

In addition to the durability testing equipment, the company plans to add equipment to analyse the composition and the physical properties of raw materials used in making transmissions by 2010, the newspaper said.
