Hyundai Motor Group has leap-frogged Toyota to become the leading SUV company in China, Asian media reports said today.
The Korean Times said that it was the first time that Hyundai had outsold Toyota.
Citing company officials, the report said that Hyundai Motor Co, which also owns the Kia brand, sold 148,367 SUVs in the Chinese market in the first nine months of the year, bringing its share of the total market to 15.6%. Toyota has a 15.3% stake.
The Kia Sportage was Hyundai’s leading brand, shifting 53,729 units.
