General Motors and its joint ventures in China said domestic vehicle sales rose 13.4% year on year to 205,885 units, setting a new record for the month.

Sales of passenger cars by Shanghai GM in China rose 21.7% to 98,674 units. Domestic mini-commercial vehicle and passenger car sales by SAIC-GM-Wuling, including its new Baojun brand, were up 8.2% to 102,959 units.

Shanghai GM’s Buick sales rose 22.6% to 56,026 units.

Chevrolet sales were up 20.5% to 46,370 units with the Cruze sedan up 72.7% to 19,910 units.

Sales of Wuling mini-commercial vehicles in China increased 6% to 95,837 units.

But sales of FAW-GM light duty commercial vehicles were down 30.4% to 3,506 units.

For the first eight months of 2011, GM and its joint ventures sold a record 1,652,693 vehicles in China, up 5.4%.
