General Motors on Wednesday opened a new joint venture manufacturing plant in northeast China which with capacity to build up to 150,000 vehicles a year.
The plant in Shenyang city will build the Chevrolet Cruze from the second quarter of 2009, according to Agence France-Presse.
“The opening of this plant is part of GM’s ongoing pledge to grow our operations in China,” GM China Group president Kevin Wale said.
The plant will be operated by General Motors China and JV partners Shanghai Automotive Industry and Shanghai GM, the report said.
It’s the second GM plant in Shenyang. The first makes the Buick GL8 and FirstLand minivans with capacity for 50,000 units a year.
