BMW and Volkswagen saw unit volume in China rise 37.6% and 17.7% respectively last year as vehicle sales in the country continued to grow rapidly.

BMW sold 232,586 cars, including Mini, in China. Adding in sales in Hong Kong, Taiwan and Macau, total sales increased by 37.2% year on year to 250,658 units.

Volkswagen sold 2.26m cars in China and Hong Kong, with sales of the VW brand up 13.8% to 1.72m. Audi sales jumped 37% to 313,000, selling 57,900 in China alone.

The VW Group plans to invest, together with its local partners SAIC Motor Corp and FAW, EUR14bn in China until 2016.
