Ford sales in China rose 11% in February to 31,934 vehicles and sales for the first two months of the year are running 16% ahead of the same period last year at 85,274 vehicles.

The sales surge is being led by the Focus sedan, with sales up 22% in February to 12,627. The Fiesta, the first car in its segment to achieve top crash test ratings in China, US, and Europe, had sales of 4,570 during the month.

The Transit continued to lead the high-end light commercial vehicle segment with 3,409 February sales, 21% from a year ago.

However, Honda reported a fall on its February sales in China, down 6.5% as sales at its Guangqi Honda Automobile joint venture dropped by nearly 20%.

The carmaker sold 41,348 vehicles in China last month, down from 44,207 units a year earlier, although January to February sales were up 4.4% at 107,028 units.

Guangqi Honda, a joint venture with Guangzhou Automobile Group, sold 23,170 vehicles in February, down 19.6% from the same month last year although Dongfeng Honda posted an 18% rise in February sales to 18,178.
