Volkswagen’s joint venture in China with First Automobile Works, FAW-VW, is planning to increase sales to around 600,000 cars a year by 2011, almost double its current level.

Of those, 450,000 will be Volkswagen cars and 150,000 Audis, according to the ‘China Daily’ newspaper, cited by dpa-AFX.

FAW-VW expects to sell 352,000 cars this year, up from 277,300 in 2005.

In the first eight months of the year FAW-VW sold 175,585 VW cars and 52,091 Audis.

Volkswagen also has a joint venture with Shanghai Automotive Industry Corporation (SAIC), called Shanghai-VW. The two operations together gave Volkswagen a 17.1% share of the market in the first six months of the year.
