A spokesman for Nissan has clarified to just-auto.com what the company’s media release concerning the Qashqai’s launch in China does not – that the car is locally built.

Until now, only the Sunderland plant in England’s north east, and St Petersburg in Russia, have built the second generation model. The car first entered production on Line 1 at Sunderland in December 2013.

Chinese production of the Qashqai is part of the Dongfeng Nissan JV (DFL), and takes place at the Dalian plant.
