Changan Ford aims to be among the top three automakers in China and plans to launch 15 models in the country in 2015 to achieve the target.
The joint venture president and CEO Marin Burela said: “We’re aspiring to be among the top three car companies in China; the source of our energy and strength is our Chinese customers. We have proven that by listening to their voices we will bring to the market cars that they truly value and want, and that’s been the source of our success.”
The joint venture held the 14th position in China in terms of sales volume in 2012, and climbed six places to rank eighth in 2014. Sales increased 18% year over year in 2014 to over 800,000 vehicles, Ecns.cn reported.
In January 2015, the company sold 18,800 units, reflecting an increase of 19%.
Under the plan, dubbed the 1515 campaign, most of the 15 models will be manufactured at Changan Ford. These models include Taurus sedan, Edge SUV and Escort, which was launched in January.
The company’s campaign also includes opening 680 dealerships in China and increasing the annual production capacity of its domestic plants to 1.2m units by 2015.
