Changan Automobile has posted big volume gains for 2013 and forecast more of the same for 2014 as it ramps up output and sales at its JV operations and for its domestic brands.

Changan Automobile and its JV manufactured total 199,437 cars and sold 202,162 cars in December 2013, increasing 10.57% and 14.86% respectively over December 2012.

From a period of January to December 2013, the company reported accumulated production of 2,110,403 cars and sales of 2,120,018 cars, which increased 21.12% and 20.76% respectively over 2012.

Changan witnessed a slowdown in November 2013 production and sales growth.  However, production and sales in December 2013 increased.

Changan’s JV brands increased rapidly in 2013, including Changan Mazda, which reported an increase of 299.78% and 140.91% respectively in production and sales in December 2013 after sales increased in October and November. Moreover, Changan Ford’s production and sales increased 41.3% and 41.7% respectively, maintaining high growth, while Changan owned brand remained stable.

Changan’s operation plan for 2014 stated “According to result of 2014 budget, operation goal of Changan 2014 shall be: production and sales exceeding 2.33m, sales income exceeding CNY17.5bn (US$2.87bn) (Consolidated statements income around CNY4.09bn”.

Changan targets 10% growth in 2014 production and sales figure, compared to 2013. To achieve the target, the company plans to focus on platform consolidation and parts modularisation for new product. It will also invest in development of main technology as well as label “energy saving, safety, fashion as intelligence” as its symbol. It will also ensure timely operation and launch of its CS75, new Benni, and Alsvin.

Changan expects profit of CNY3.2bn to CNY3.8bn in 2014, which would be a gain of 121.24% to 162.72% on 2013. The company said that the performance increase will mainly contribute towards the launch of Changan’s new Escape, Ecosport and Mondeo.
