China’s automobile imports witnessed steady growth from 2007 through 2008, an increase of more than 30%.

In 2009, however, imports were sluggish due to the fallout from the 2008 global financial crisis, growing only 2.8% in terms of the number of units imported.

Many market watchers expect that China’s total auto sales will exceed 17m units this year, a 25% surge from the 13.6m units sold last year.
