China has is to introduce a safety standard system – China New Car Assessment Program (C-NCAP) for new electric vehicles.
Liu Yuguang, an official from China Automotive Technology and Research Centre, who runs C-NCAP said: “Safety tests on new electric vehicles will have more standards besides those test requirements on traditional vehicles.”
Safety tests on electric cars have rules such as battery packs should not be permitted in the vehicle cabin and that electricity leakage should be avoided.
Yuguang said so far none of the vehicles on Chinese roads have undergone the C-NCAP tests.
