BYD says that it will start supplying several cars fitted with its in-house developed dual clutch transmission in 2013.

The Chinese automaker had displayed the transmission at Shanghai International Automobile Industry Exhibition in 2011. The new transmission will not completely replace the existing transmission but will be available on higher-trim variants of selected models, reports say.

The DCT transmission will be installed on three BYD models, reported the Beijing Times citing internal sources from BYD. The sources added that as there is a higher price attached with the usage of the in-house transmission, there will be a slight increased in car prices.

The transmission is noteworthy for the considerable fuel savings it provides, the report added.
