Auto-Asia online reports that two Japanese tyre manufacturers, Bridgestone Corp. and Toyo Tyre & Rubber Co. are set to pump up their Chinese output plans in order to meet local market demand.
The Auto-Asia report says that Bridgestone plans to lift output in China by about 40% by 2004 and that production at its Tianjin plant, which makes passenger car tyres, will be increased 30% to a daily rate of about 13,000 tyres.
The local market leader, Shanghai Tyre and Rubber Co., has formed an alliance with Michelin.
The report adds that Toyo Tyre & Rubber, wants to raise production by about 60% by 2003 at its car tyre plant in Jiangsu. Most of the additional volume is destined for the Chinese replacement market.
