Beijing’s municipal authority plans to build 10,000 public charging stations for electric vehicles by 2017.

The China Daily newspaper reports that the charging poles will be installed in airports and train stations, car parks at shopping centres, highway rest areas, electric car stores and gas stations.

The plans for the extensive charging network have been published by Beijing Municipal Science and Technology Commission.

According to the plan, Beijing also plans to introduce private charging poles.

The EV charging push comes as China grapples with air pollution problems in its cities, a number of which are introducing restrictions on car purchase. So-called ‘new energy vehicles’, including electric vehicles, are also being encouraged.
