A Dow Jones report says that Beijing Jeep officials are denying speculation that DaimlerChrysler is planning a reorganisation to its Asian operations that would transfer its Beijing Jeep manufacturing operations to Southeast Asia – most likely to the Philippines.
A Beijing Jeep Corporation (BJC) spokesman told Dow Jones that the two companies (BJC and DC) had signed an agreement earlier this month to extend their joint venture partnership for another thirty years and that they were waiting for Chinese government approval.
The BJC plant in Beijing makes the Chrysler Cherokee and BJC announced earlier this month that it is awaiting approval to make passenger cars also. If approval is given, the Chrysler Neon would be a strong candidate for Chinese assembly.
