August sales surged 208% year on year at joint venture Beijing Hyundai, the automaker said on Monday.


After 30,000 sales in January, the August tally was 50,713 units.


Year to date volume was up 78.2% to 350,000 units while profits were up 150%.


Based on the present sales figures, Beijing Hyundai is expected to surpass its original annual sales goal and sell over 550,000 vehicles during 2009, the Xinhua news agency noted.


Elantra sales last month jumped 156% to 15,000 units Accent volume rocketed up 469% to 7,003 units. The Molnca posted sales of 2,500 units in its first month.


Beijing Hyundai is expected to launch the i30 hatchback on Wednesday.
