Hyundai Motor’s Chinese joint venture with Beijing Automotive Industry is recalling 97,452 Elantra Yuedong cars produced locally from 16 March, 2008 to 25 January, 2010 to check air bags that might accidentally deploy when a car is parked or moving at slow speeds.
China’s General Administration of Quality Supervision, Inspection and Quarantine announced the recall, Reuters reported.
A software upgrade is planned.
The agency said it had received multiple complaints from owners about spontaneous airbag deployments and that some incidents had caused injuries but provided no detail.
