Audi AG said on Monday that it sold 29,000 cars in China during the first half of 2003, a jump of 84% on a year earlier, Dow Jones reported.

According to the news agency, citing an Audi press release, the larger, higher-end A6 model sedan accounted for 25,000 of the sales, while it also sold 3,000 A4s, the firm’s second China model introduced in April.

Dow Jones noted that Audi builds the A6 and A4 series in China through Volkswagen’s joint venture with China’s FAW Group, FAW-VW.
Audi had said earlier it plans to sell 50,000 cars in China this year, up from 37,000 in 2002, Dow Jones added.

The A4 model is aimed at private customers, while the A6 has sold particularly well to government officials, the report said.
