Audi plans annual sales in China of at least 200,000 cars by 2013, two years ahead of schedule, sales chief Peter Schwarzenbauer said.

The VW unit expects to sell 136,000 cars there this year after 119,600 in 2008, he told Reuters.

A new plant built with local joint venture partner FAW Group should open soon in Chuangchun, the capital of Jilin Province in the north east, as early as this month, doubling annual production capacity to 200,000 units to help meet the new sales target.

Audi China sold a record 66,866 vehicles in the first half of this year in China, up 11% year on year. Monthly sales reached a record 13,265 units in June.
