DaimlerChrysler is “scanning the globe” to find a partner with which to build a small B segment car for its Chrysler brand.


A Chrysler spokesman told Dow Jones that that the company has been in talks with Hyundai and Volkswagen. Chrysler is currently developing a minivan with Volkswagen.


Chrysler’s Dodge brand markets the Caliber in this segment in the US. This car will help launch Dodge as a mainstream brand in Europe later this year, with the wraps coming off the European version at the Geneva motor show in March.


Just-auto understands VW is also supplying the diesel engine that will be optional on this side of the Atlantic.
