Sales of the new Chevrolet Bolt 'long range' EV have begun in Canada.

"Participating" Chevrolet dealers are now taking orders for the car, priced from C$42,795 plus 1,600 destination charge. This can drop to $31,434 plus freight after the eligible Ontario provincial incentive applicable to the base model Bolt is applied, GM Canada said in a statement.

"Bolt EV builds on Chevrolet's leadership position in EV sales with Volt being the best-selling plug-in electric vehicle in Canada," the automaker claimed. "In fact, Chevrolet customers have logged over 130,000,000 EV kilometres across the country.  Bolt EV, Motor Trend's Car of the Year, offers a US EPA-estimated 383 kilometres of range on a full charge and recently earned a position on the 2017 Car and Driver 10 Best Cars list. It was also named Best New Car to Buy by Green Car Reports, Green Car of the Year by Green Car Journal, Best EV by Car Connection and most recently Best New Car of the Year by The Car Guide / Le Guide de L'Auto.

The Bolt initially will be sold in the provinces of BC, Ontario, and Quebec with first customer deliveries due early in 2017. Within a year, it will be available nationwide.

The Canadian specification Bolt will have standard DC fast charging capability.
