Hargrove spoke to the Associated Press (AP) after a meeting on Friday morning with GM CEO Rick Wagoner in Detroit.

Hargrove said Wagoner told him the plant would be shut down and the union leader added he now would consider his options, which may include a strike, arbitration or a labour board action.

The meeting came after three days of union protests at the company’s Canadian headquarters that at times prevented employees getting to their offices; they worked at home instead.

AP noted that GM announced on Tuesday it is closing Oshawa and three other pickup truck and sport utility vehicle factories as US$4 per gallon petrol hurts sales of those vehicles.
