Toyota Motor Manufacturing Canada (TMMC) has celebrated two milestones this week: the 20th birthday (on 20 September) of its plant in Cambridge, Ontario, and, a day later, the the official start of construction of the Woodstock, Ontario plant, its second vehicle production facility in Canada.

At the Cambridge 20th anniversary celebrations, Toyota officials presented a donation of $C250,000 to the University of Waterloo and two vehicles to the United Way charity.
Speaking at the construction start celebration, TMMC president Ray Tanguay Tanguay said: “This new facility strengthens Canada’s automotive industry as a whole.”
TMMC was established in 1986 and began producing the Corolla in 1988. In 2003, it commenced the first overseas production of a Lexus model (the RX300 SUV). Woodstock is scheduled to begin production of the Toyota RAV4 small SUV in autumn 2008.
Cumulative production to the end of last month was 2.67m vehicles.
