New motor vehicle sales in Canada reached a seasonally adjusted 129,997 units in June, down 10.2% from 144,829 in May and down 8.9% from 142,628 in June 2002, data from Statistics Canada showed.
A Bloomberg News report said the median forecast of analysts surveyed by Thomson Financial/IFR was for new motor vehicle sales to fall 8.8% in June from May. Statistics Canada reportedly said the fall in June was due to declines in both passenger car and truck sales.
The report said the number of new vehicles sold in the first six months of 2003 is down 5.1% from a year earlier while preliminary figures for July show that sales rose about 11%, mainly because of strong truck sales.
