Honda has started mass production of the redesigned 2016 Civic sedan at Alliston, Ontario, the factory nominated as the global lead factory for the model in November 2014, according to the just-auto PLDB database. Sales through dealerships across the US and Canada start in November and Honda claims this 10th-generation Civic sedan "is the most ambitious remake of Civic in the model's 43-year history".
As well as being lead plant, Alliston is also responsible for developing the manufacturing processes and technologies that will form the manufacturing base for Civic production at the 11 Honda plants worldwide that will build the new Civic model. Swindon in the UK will build hatchbacks.
The 10th-generation Civic range will also include the first Type-R version for North America.
The 2016 Civic line includes two new engines – including the first Honda turbo engine for North America.
