General Motors of Canada has confirmed it is proceeding with a new C$227 million investment in its Oshawa truck assembly centre to prepare for the next generation full size pickup trucks, the Chevrolet Silverado and GMC Sierra.

The work includes extensive retooling throughout the plant now under way and scheduled to be ready this autumn. GM will shut the plant for the week of 3 April and the entire month of September as part of the project.

Over the last year, GM Canada has announced almost C$3 billion in new investments in the country, including this new truck plant investment and recently confirmed additional capacity at the St. Catharines engine operations.
