Canada’s auto industry bucked the trend prompting doom and despair south of the border today by posting overall vehicle sales last month up 1.5% year on year to 122,711 units compared with October 2007.


Overall light duty truck sales were up 0.5% while passenger vehicle sales were up 2.4%.


Year to date sales were up 1.4% to 1,436,342.


Association of International Automobile Manufacturers of Canada members’ market share for the month was up to 51.3% compared to 47.9% a year ago.


YTD AIAMC market share was 51.5% versus 47.3% this time last year.

October highlights included Audi up 67.7%, Infiniti up 60.4%, Mini up 52.7%, VW up 37.7%, Mercedes up 32%, BMW up 22.8% and Honda’s Acura up 20.2%, the trade group told just-auto.
