General Motors Canada’s Oshawa assembly plant east of Toronto on Monday added 700 employees to support a second shift on the flexible manufacturing line in preparation for the 2011 launch of the Chevrolet Camaro Convertible and the new Buick Regal which is currently sourced from Opel in Germany – it shares the Insignia’s platform.
These new models will be built alongside the Camaro coupe. Start of production for the convertible is scheduled for January while the Regal will ramp up in early spring.

“With three new vehicle launches under way and the addition of two new shifts, the Oshawa Assembly Plant has become a model for flexibility,” said Kevin Williams, president and managing director of General Motors of Canada.
This new shift for the flex line comes just weeks after the addition of a third shift on the consolidated line to support increased production of the Chevrolet Equinox SUV, one of North America’s fastest-selling vehicles. The two new shifts have secured over 1300 jobs for Oshawa, recalling all production workers along with the hiring of over 300 new employees.
