Sales of new automobiles in Canada rose 5.1 per cent in August, writes Bloomberg News (16/10/00) citing Government figures.

According to Statistics Canada, August sales totalled 139,281 vehicles-up from last month’s revised figure of 132,516.

Truck sales – which includes minivans, buses and sports utility vehicles – recorded a 4.5 per cent increase, from 62,848 in July to 65,658 in August, says the report.

A 5.7 per cent increase was registered for passenger-car sales in August to 73,623, from July’s figure of 69,668.

For the year, new motor vehicle sales nationwide increased by 6.1 per cent from August 1999. All figures are seasonally adjusted, says Bloomberg.
