Cadillac is preparing to move its headquarters back to Detroit after four years in the trendy SoHo district of Manhattan.
A longtime GM executive, Steve Carlisle, who took over Cadillac last April, confirmed the shift to the Wall Street Journal in an interview.
He reportedly said he wanted management closer to the brand's design, development and engineering hub in suburban Detroit.
"We've got to think about how we take inefficiencies out of the communication process between the Cadillac team and the GM partners," said Carlisle.
The original decision to move Cadillac's HQ to Manhattan was widely criticised.
The move likely will affect recent new hires such as Deborah Wahl, named global chief marketing officer, from 26 March 26, who reports to Cadillac president Johan de Nysschen.
