A fleet of 12 BYD K9 electric buses for the city of Mendoza, Argentina, arrived at the port of San Antonio in Chile.
The electric buses are the first fleet of its kind in Argentina, signifying a major milestone in the electrification of public transportation in the South American country.
The project is the result of cooperation between the local government of Mendoza, Argentinian bus company Andesmar, local bus operator STM and BYD. The buses reached Mendoza on 23 May and will undergo a final check before starting operations.
The K9s are 12m long and equipped with non-toxic and fireproof proprietary iron phosphate batteries, electric motors coupled in the wheels and regenerative brakes. They also have air conditioning.
BYD has sold numerous buses in other Latin America countries including Colombia, Ecuador, Brazil and Uruguay.
In December 2018 100 K9FE buses were delivered to Santiago, the capital of Chile. In January this year, BYD won the bid to provide the Colombian city of Medellin with the country's largest fleet of electric buses, and also the second-largest fleet in the region.
