BYD today claimed to be the first automaker worldwide to produce 7m ‘new energy vehicles’ (hybrid, plug in hybrid and battery electric).

The milestone car was a Denza N7 built in Jinan, China.

The automaker built its millionth NEV in May 2021, 3m 18 months later and 5m nine months after that. It took another seven months to reach 7m, showcasing, BYD said, “a robust end to end supply chain and the effect of scale”.

In 2023 alone, NEV full year sales were 3.02m units.

Overseas new energy passenger car sales last year rose 337% year on year to 240,000.

BYD NEVs are sold in 64 countries and there are manufacturing facilities either operating or planned in Thailand, Brazil, Uzbekistan, and Hungary.
