Fiat was expected to resume output at all Italian car plants from 12:00GMT on Wednesday after a deal was reached to resolve an Italian truck drivers’ dispute, the car maker told Reuters – the dispute had blocked production for nearly a month.

“Activity of all auto plants will resume from 14:00 (12:00 GMT),” a Fiat spokesman told the news agency.

According to Reuters Fiat said earlier in May that the blockade of its factories – in Melfi, Mirafiori, Cassino and Pomigliano – was causing serious damage to the company.

Truck drivers were not striking against Fiat but had been taking industrial action against car transporter companies since April 26, the report added.

Under an arbitrated agreement struck on Tuesday, the truck drivers will be paid 7% more and offered a one-off payment of €3,000, Reuters added.
