Volvo do Brasil has started production of I-Shift gearboxes at its plant in Curitiba, Brazil. It will also start local production of 11-litre engines.
The Brazilian gearboxes will equip the FH and FM heavy vehicle lines.
“The I-Shift gearbox has been getting outstanding acceptance in Brazil and in all the other countries of South America. It already equips about 80% of the FH and FM trucks and over 90% of the highway buses which leave our assembly line in Curitiba”, said local president Roger Alm.
The success of the electronic gearbox is mainly due to the noticeable consumption reduction that it allows – up to 5% compared to vehicles with manual gearboxes. Besides, it provides more durability to the clutch, less tyre wear and increases the comfort and safety levels for the driver.
“We were pioneers in the Brazilian market, introducing an electronic gearbox in this commercial vehicles segment. It is technically very advanced, but very easy to use”, added Alm.
With the 11-liter engine ‘nationalisation’, the Curitiba Volvo factory increases its line of locally manufactured products.
