O Estado de São Paulo reports that Visteon, has chosen its Brazilian subsidiary to be its global base for the production of the front part of car stereo systems and air-conditioning equipment.

The product will supply the domestic market and be exported to the US, Europe and other countries. The local production cost is in average 60% cheaper than in such regions, the report said.

Visteon do Brasil, will also provide engineering services to the headquarters, such as the development of the dashboard of a new car to be assembled in Mexico and a MP3 for a vehicle to be launched in Germany by a European assembler. Visteon will invest R$55mil in two years in a technological center and in the facilities of the Guarulhos-based plant (Sao Paulo).

The engineering and technical boards will be expanded by 60% until December. With the new contracts, Visteon expects to achieve 30% of the production focused on the external market by 2008.
