Following a successful experience with the critically acclaimed 2.7 litre V6 CGI diesel engine, Ford has confirmed that it awarded the Tupy foundry of Brazil, and the Swedish Compacted Graphite Iron process control specialist SinterCast, the production contract for the CGI cylinder block of its new UK-built V8 diesel engine.


A claimed industry first, the CGI cylinder block is fully machined at the Tupy facilities in Brazil before being shipped to Ford’s Dagenham Diesel Centre in east London for engine assembly.


The 270 horsepower 640 Nm torque engine will be available in various Ford group vehicles during 2006. Initial volumes of the Euro 4-compliant engine are expected to be around 25,000 units per year with potential future applications in both Europe and North America.
