The Brazilian subsidiary of Japan’s Toyota Motor Corp. said on Tuesday that it will stop production in December of a utility vehicle that has become a symbol of the local car industry.
The Bandeirante became a legend in Brazil right from when the first units powered by a Mercedes-Benz engine rolled off Toyota’s local assembly line in November 1961.
The model has continued until now with only detail changes. A Toyota diesel replaced the Mercedes engine in 1994.
