PSA Peugeot Citroen will be extending forced holiday leave for 2,600 workers in Brazil for thirty days.
The move reflects high stocks and a weak market, the Estado newswire reported.
Peugeot managed to sell 1.3% more vehicles in December in comparison to November sales, due to government tax breaks that benefited consumers with lower prices on new cars. But sales were down 26.6% on the year, with expectations for relatively flat sales for carmakers in 2009.
A number of auto sector firms have announced workforce reductions in Brazil this week, including GM and Magneti Marelli.
