Nissan’s new Resende plant in Brazil has now been in volume production for a year – of the March (Micra in most other markets) and Versa – and has since built over 30,000 units, the automaker said.
A Versa sedan was the milestone 30,000th unit and the birthday and volume milestones were celebrated at an event attended by 1,800 employees and suppliers at the powertrain plant that is also part of the Resende complex.

Car 30,000 was fitted with a 1.6 litre, 16 valve, flexfuel engine made at Resende.
“Two models [entered production at Resende] in only 12 months, the [updated] March and the Novo Versa, said Nissan Brazil president François Dossa. “In addition the new one litre, 12-valve engine and the 1.6 litre 16 valve engines were introduced.
“The Resende Industrial Complex forms the basis for our growth in the domestic market. After one year making the March and the introduction of the Versa, Nissan intends to achieve 3% of market share in 2015, from 2.3% in 2014,” he added.
Nissan made one of the largest investments in Brazilian automaking history at Resende. The car plant includes stamping, body jig/weld, paint, plastic injection moulding and final assembly plus a quality inspection area and a test track. Total spend was R$2.6bn for annual capacity of 200,000 vehicles and engines.
