Workers at General Motors Brazilian car factory have ended their strike after the carmaker dropped plans to furlough around 800 workers. The strike lasted for six days.

Production was halted at the site to protest against the automaker’s proposal to lay off around 800 employees for two months, Reuters reported.

According to the metalworkers’ union of Sao Jose dos Campos, while compromising with the union, the company has agreed to lay off 650 workers for five months with an assurance that they will not lose their jobs. Wages for the stoppage days will also not be deducted. The automaker has also promised that it will not retaliate against workers who left their jobs in the strike.

GM has not commented on the issue.

Workers at Volkswagen and Mercedes Benz have also protested payroll cuts.
