Volkswagen will launch the Fox compact car line at next week’s Leipzig motor show in eastern Germany. Sales will begin in late April with prices in Germany starting at under €10,000.
The Fox is produced only in Brazil and will replace the slow-selling German-built Lupo. It is based on the current Polo platform but has completely different styling inside and out. At 3,830mm, it is 310mm longer than the Lupo.
Volkswagen of Brazil expects to ship about 100,000 of the cars a year to Europe. 2,000 units are already in Germany and a freighter carrying another 2,000 set sail from Brazil last week.
The Fox was launched in Brazil during 2003 and is now sold in other Latin America countries. The European version, called – imaginitively- Fox Europe by VW Brazil has some changes to meet consumer demand and local regulations.
Airbags and ABS are standard and ESP is optional – these items are not offered in Brazil.
